Coins Featuring Trump Sell Out Within Hours — The Hill

Gold-colored one-dollar commemorative coins featuring U.S. President Donald Trump sold out within hours after sales began. As The Hill reports, the U.S. Mint began accepting orders at noon on Wednesday.

Order status and limits

A roll of 25 coins priced at $61 is listed on the ordering page as “currently on backorder,” meaning it can be ordered with delayed delivery. A bag of 100 coins for $154 is marked “currently unavailable” — temporarily unavailable.

The mintage limit for rolls was 150,000 units, while the limit for bags was 50,000. Until Thursday afternoon, each household was limited to no more than two rolls or bags. The Hill asked the U.S. Treasury Department about the timing of restocking.

Design and legal questions

The obverse of the coin features Trump’s image and the inscriptions “Liberty,” “In God We Trust,” and “1776 2026.” The reverse depicts the presidential seal and the number “250,” marking the 250th anniversary of the United States. Some coins randomly inserted into rolls and bags bear the “July 4” mark, indicating that they were minted on Independence Day.

The coins were produced at the Philadelphia Mint. Their denomination is one dollar, and they are legal tender. At the same time, the issue raised legal questions over depicting a sitting president on U.S. currency. The Treasury Department said the design is legal because a 2020 law permits designs connected with the 250th anniversary of the United States.
