MTN Ghana completes sixth SME business clinic in Ghana

MTN Ghana has completed its sixth business clinic of the year for small and medium-sized enterprises in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. The two-day event brought together more than 200 entrepreneurs from various sectors and focused on developing marketing strategies for operating in domestic and international markets, MyJoyOnline reports.

Mohammed Abubakar Sadiq, Senior Manager for SME Sales, Business Broadband and Partnerships at MTN Ghana, said the programme is designed to remove key barriers to the growth of Ghanaian small and medium-sized companies. He cited insufficient use of digital tools and limited access to financing among these barriers.

Digital services and financing

The company told participants about digital business solutions, including Yellow Biz, which provides internet access and enables the creation of professional websites through WebWiz. MTN Ghana also offers Microsoft 365 with tools for communication and remote collaboration.

Other services include the Business Eye video surveillance system, which allows owners to remotely monitor stores and offices and store recordings in cloud storage. For women entrepreneurs, MTN introduced the Adwumapa package with voice services, mobile internet, insurance and access to medical consultations through Doctor on Call. According to a company representative, women lead more than 51% of small and medium-sized enterprises in Ghana.

Under the SME Accelerate initiative, MTN Ghana works with financial institutions to help entrepreneurs obtain loans. Clinic participants were also informed about short-term lending through MTN Mobile Money for SMEs that meet the established requirements, as well as the possibility of applying to partner banks for larger loans. Fidelity Bank took part in the event.

Training for more than 1,400 SMEs

Since the beginning of the year, MTN Ghana has held business clinics in the Volta, Eastern, Ashanti, Western, Northern and Greater Accra regions. In total, more than 1,400 small and medium-sized enterprises have received training through these programmes. Last year, the company held four such clinics.

About 90 entrepreneurs with high growth potential are to take part in a 13-week mini-MBA programme jointly organised with a business school. MTN Ghana will fully cover the cost of the training, and participants will work in groups, receive mentorship and certificates upon completing the course.

Richard Maglo, lead consultant for the business clinic in Accra, urged entrepreneurs to make marketing decisions based on market research rather than intuition. According to him, companies should first identify the needs of potential customers and only then formulate their offerings of goods and services.
