The Romanian Foreign Ministry accused Russia of escalating tensions following the crash of a drone in Galați
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has described the incident involving a drone crashing into a high-rise building in Galați on the night of May 29 as a “serious and irresponsible escalation” on Russia’s part. The ministry emphasized that such incidents pose a threat to the civilian population and the security of the region.
This is stated in a statement by the Romanian ministry published on the morning of May 29.
The ministry noted that the drone, which had been involved in bombing infrastructure targets in Ukraine, crashed in the city of Galați, causing a fire on the roof of a residential building. Two people sustained minor injuries, and the building’s residents were evacuated.
"This incident is a serious and irresponsible escalation on the part of the Russian Federation. Romania will take the necessary diplomatic measures in response to this serious violation of international law and its airspace," the Romanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The ministry added that Romania has informed its allies and the NATO Secretary General of the circumstances and requested that measures be taken to expedite the transfer of anti-drone capabilities to Romania.
"The Russian Federation remains an aggressor state waging an illegal war, which has serious consequences for regional security and the safety of citizens. The Russian Federation bears direct responsibility for these serious and irresponsible actions," the Romanian Foreign Ministry stated.
Romania, the Foreign Ministry added, will act with the utmost determination to increase international pressure on the Russian Federation with the aim of achieving an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire.

During the Russian strike on the Odesa region on April 25, Russian drones were moving along the border with Romania. British aircraft patrolling Romanian airspace tracked their routes. Later, drone debris was found in border areas of Romania.
The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Russian ambassador over the incident involving a drone crash near the city of Galați.
