A court has ordered the protection of 80 hectares of a natural landmark in Lviv Oblast

The unique natural site “Tortonian Sandstone Outcrop” in Lviv Oblast, covering an area of 80 hectares and designated as a geological natural monument of local significance, has finally received effective legal protection.

The value of this area lies in its ancient geological strata, which are exposed at the surface and are remnants of marine deposits from the Neogene period, holding immense scientific, conservation, and educational significance. Despite its status as part of the nature reserve fund, the monument’s boundaries had not been officially established for a long time. This created real risks of illegal land use, development, transfer to private ownership, or physical damage to the unique deposits.

To resolve this issue, the Zolochiv District Prosecutor’s Office filed a lawsuit, demanding that the Zabolotsiv Village Council formalize the boundaries of the natural monument. The court played a key role in this case, fully granting the claims and establishing a legal basis for protecting the territory. Currently, this court decision has been officially enforced, and the boundaries of the geological site have been marked on the ground, ensuring its proper legal protection.

This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.

Previously, the appellate court overturned an illegal decision by the Bucha District Council, and the 3,000-hectare Bilychansky Forest was returned to the Kyiv community.

Also, after nearly five years of legal proceedings, a complex of historic buildings dating from 1830 to 1910, located in the historic part of Podil near Zamkova Hora, has been returned to the Kyiv community.
