The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Philippines has risen to 37, with another 487 people injured. According to preliminary data, approximately 2,000 homes have been damaged, as well as dozens of government buildings and bridges. Rescue services are continuing their work in the affected areas.

The disaster also hit local businesses. Alliance Select Foods International, a canned tuna producer in General Santos City, has temporarily suspended operations. An SM Prime Holdings shopping mall remains closed. Jollibee Foods reported that all staff are safe, although one of the chain’s locations sustained serious damage, according to Bloomberg.
Earlier, a 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Amami Island in Japan.
A powerful earthquake also struck China, prompting the evacuation of thousands of people.
