In Cyprus, father admits guilt over two-year-old son's death after fall from window — BBC News
At a court in Paphos, Cyprus, British man Joshua Foster admitted guilt in causing the death of his two-year-old son, who fell from a hotel window in July. The man admitted the charge of causing death through a negligent, reckless or dangerous act, BBC News reports.
Fall from the fourth floor
According to The Times, cited by the BBC, the boy died on 12 July after falling from the fourth floor of the King Evelthon Beach Hotel and Resort in Chlorakas near Paphos. As the Paphos District Court was told in July, the child fell through an open window while his father was holding him by the waist and swinging him from side to side.
Foster was allowed to return to the United Kingdom for his son's funeral on the condition that he returned to Cyprus to attend the plea hearing. Last week, he returned to the island for that hearing.

Next hearing in October
The next hearing was scheduled for 5 October. The prosecutor is to set out the circumstances of the case, while the defence is to present mitigation arguments to the court.
Foster's lawyer, Alexandros Alexandrou, said his client admitted guilt to avoid a lengthy trial and not force the family to relive the child's death in court. The defence lawyer also plans to seek the lifting of travel restrictions so that Foster can be in the United Kingdom with his wife and daughter until the next hearing.
The maximum sentence for this charge is four years in prison. According to the lawyer, the court should take into account previous similar cases in which defendants were given a fine or a suspended sentence.
