Cyprus union SEK announces 24-hour strike for September 17
In Cyprus, the SEK trade union has announced a 24-hour strike by hourly paid public sector workers, scheduled for September 17. The action is linked to negotiations on renewing the collective agreement for this category of workers for 2025–2027, Cyprus Mail reports.
Pay dispute
SEK stated that the government insists on a written proposal submitted on July 21. According to the union, this option did not provide for wage increases from 2025.
The SEK, PEO and Deok unions rejected the proposal on August 5. They informed the joint labour committee in writing of their position and the planned strike.

Who will strike
The unions said they had allowed time for dialogue to reach an agreement. At the same time, they said the government had not changed its position, leaving no choice but to strike.
On September 17, all hourly paid workers in government departments, services, school boards and Okypy public health services will strike. The unions placed responsibility on the government for the inconvenience and problems the 24-hour action may cause.
