Popi Christoforou buried in Limassol, Cyprus
Popi Christoforou, the mother of twin sailors Miltos and Christos who were killed in an explosion at the naval base in Mari, was buried in Limassol, Cyprus. As Cyprus Mail reports, she died after a long battle with cancer.
Farewell at the Holy Trinity Church
The funeral took place at the Holy Trinity Church in Limassol. Relatives and government officials attended the ceremony. Many of those present wore white and blue in accordance with Christoforou's final wish.
A naval forces delegation attended the funeral as a sign of respect for the deceased brothers. A delegation of motorcyclists from the Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou memorial initiative also arrived.

Campaign for justice
Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides was represented at the ceremony by Deputy Shipping Minister Marina Hadjimanolis. Also present were DISY party president Annita Demetriou, DIKO party president Nikolas Papadopoulos, former president Nikos Anastasiades, and Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis.
Christoforou became a prominent participant in the campaign for justice for the 13 people who died on July 11, 2011, in an explosion at the Evangelos Florakis naval base in Mari. The explosion occurred after confiscated ammunition stored at the base detonated; those killed included naval officers and firefighters. In the years that followed, Christoforou publicly sought accountability for the deaths of her sons and other victims. After her death, Christodoulides called her a symbol of inner strength, dignity, and fighting spirit.
