A rock arch collapsed in Malta, killing a tourist
A tragedy occurred on the island of Comino in Malta—part of a famous rock arch collapsed onto a 26-year-old tourist from China who was riding a jet ski at the time.
Debris from the rock fell into the water, trapping the man beneath it. Despite a rescue operation, efforts to save the tourist were unsuccessful.
The incident occurred on Saturday, June 27, at approximately 7:00 p.m.: the natural rock arch collapsed as a jet ski was passing beneath it.
According to an eyewitness, “just 10 minutes before the incident,” people were standing on the arch. Sources told the Times of Malta that the arch collapsed immediately after the man jumped from it into the sea.
He managed to get out of the water but sustained minor injuries. He was taken to the hospital.
The jet ski, which was carrying two people, was struck by falling rocks and destroyed; debris was floating in the water. The man died, and the woman sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital for medical treatment. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Divers from the Maltese Armed Forces were deployed to the scene. Eventually, the body of a Chinese tourist, who showed no signs of life, was found underwater.
The rock formation known as “The Kissing Elephants” is located on Comino, a small island northwest of the main island of Malta.
Following the tourist’s death, a Maltese magistrate launched an investigation into the incident, and investigators are still working to determine the circumstances of the tragedy.

This was reported by the Times of Malta.
