Explosions reported on Iran’s southern coast — Anadolu Agency

Several explosions were reported in coastal areas of southern Iran on the morning of September 10, including in Sirik, Minab and on Qeshm Island. Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said that several areas of Sirik were struck by projectiles, which the agency described as hostile.

As Anadolu Agency reports, IRNA did not provide further details about these projectiles. The Fars news agency, citing local authorities, also reported explosions in Sirik, Minab and on Qeshm Island.

Sounds from the sea

According to Fars, the sounds of explosions in these areas came from the sea. The day before, the agency reported an explosion whose sound reached southern districts of the city of Jask from the sea.

Tensions around the strait

The reports came amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States over the Strait of Hormuz. In June, a memorandum was signed that envisaged an agreement to open the strategic waterway as a prerequisite for a broader peace agreement.
