Another vessel to join search for missing passengers in northern Cyprus — Anadolu Agency
Another technically equipped search-and-rescue vessel will be sent to the area where a passenger ship sank near the city of Kyrenia in northern Cyprus. It is due to depart from Istanbul on Thursday and is expected to begin work at the end of the week or early next week, Anadolu Agency reports.
Search at great depth
Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Unal Ustel said the search for the missing passengers is continuing without interruption. The TCG Isin vessel remains operational in the accident area, while TCG Alemdar has returned to Türkiye for scheduled maintenance.
The wreckage of the sunken vessel was found at a depth of 554 meters off the coast of Kyrenia. Search operations near it are being conducted using remotely operated underwater vehicles. According to Ustel, difficult sea conditions are complicating the operation.

Circumstances of the accident
The high-speed passenger vessel operated between the port of Kyrenia and the port of Tasucu in Türkiye's Mersin province. It began taking on water in its bow shortly after departing Kyrenia at around noon on August 30 and sank while attempting to return to port.
There were 267 passengers and crew members on board, and 239 people were rescued. The death toll stands at 14. Ustel said the Northern Cyprus authorities remain in constant contact and coordination with the Turkish side regarding the search operation.
