NATO declares readiness for possible Russian provocation — Politico Europe
In Copenhagen, Denmark, Chair of the NATO Military Committee Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone stated that the Alliance is ready to respond to a possible escalation on the eastern flank. According to him, NATO has prepared structures, military personnel and weapons, and continues to build up its forces both in numbers and in the level of equipment, Politico Europe reports.
Warning of a possible provocation
Cavo Dragone's statement came amid warnings from European leaders about the risk of escalation by the Russian Federation, an aggressor state. On Thursday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Moscow could send drones or missiles to a frontline NATO country in the coming months as part of a staged provocation to test the Alliance.
According to the publication, similar warnings were also voiced in France and the Netherlands. In recent weeks, European countries have faced a growing number of airspace violations and sabotage attempts amid Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine. Politico also notes that in August, U.S. intelligence reports warned of possible plans by Moscow to carry out a limited attack on one of the NATO countries in the coming years.

Plans to defend the eastern flank
Cavo Dragone said that NATO generals did not discuss the latest warnings at their meeting in Copenhagen. At the same time, he stated that the Alliance has 4,000 pages of military plans to defend the eastern flank, including scenarios involving a minimal crisis or intervention on the territory of NATO countries.
The allies approved three regional operational defense plans in 2023 after the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. According to the Chair of the Military Committee, the allies are ready to act in the event of escalation and know the procedure for responding to an attack. He also stated that Russia's actions in recent weeks and months are testing the allies' resolve, aiming to undermine trust and weaken NATO unity.
