Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda stated that resuming dialogue with Belarus is possible only if Minsk takes concrete steps toward good-neighborly relations.
According to him, there are currently no such signals, and certain actions by the Belarusian side cannot be considered a sign of goodwill. In particular, he mentioned the situation involving the detention of Lithuanian trucks, which were later returned.
Nausėda also dismissed claims that the issue with Belarusian weather balloons had been resolved, emphasizing that the threat remains.
The president stressed that the possibility of contacts will depend on whether the Belarusian regime stops posing threats to Lithuania.
He also noted that the EU imposed sanctions on Belarusian fertilizers due to human rights violations and Belarus’s involvement in the war against Ukraine.
Lithuania explained why the war in Ukraine is depleting Russia’s resources.
Lithuania has purchased protective equipment against chemical and nuclear threats worth over €300,000.
