Night trains between Paris and Toulouse are delayed by several hours due to bad weather

In France, “Intercity” night trains running between Paris and Toulouse are experiencing delays of 4–6 hours due to severe weather. The delays were caused by tree branches that fell onto the tracks and damaged the infrastructure.

According to the rail operator SNCF, a train’s pantograph was damaged by falling branches on a section of track in the Lot department near Toulouse. As a result, a train that departed from Toulouse on the evening of July 16 came to a stop on the tracks. A train from Paris, which was about 100 kilometers from its final destination, was also stranded on this same section of track.

As of the morning of July 17, the train from Paris was delayed by more than four hours, and the train from Toulouse by nearly six hours. The trip between the two cities usually takes about nine hours.

SNCF reported that it plans to restore service on the damaged section by mid-morning.

As a reminder, on July 16, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit the site of a massive wildfire in Fontainebleau, south of Paris, which firefighters have been unable to contain for several days.

Severe thunderstorms that struck southern Germany on July 16–17 resulted in one fatality, several injuries, and significant property damage.
