German military personnel have joined the Polish “Shield East” project, which aims to strengthen NATO’s defense infrastructure on its eastern flank.
“At Poland’s invitation, Bundeswehr personnel are supporting the implementation of the ‘Eastern Shield’ program. A German unit, together with Polish Army personnel, is carrying out engineering tasks to strengthen the defense infrastructure on NATO’s northeastern flank,” the statement reads.
The Polish Ministry of Defense noted that these measures are a response to the changing security environment following Russia’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine.
