Germany plans to expand its food reserves in case of a crisis
The German government is preparing to increase its strategic food reserves in case of emergencies.
This was reported by Tagesschau.
Agriculture Minister Alois Rainer stated that the country plans to supplement existing reserves with long-term storage foods, particularly ready-to-eat items such as canned goods.
Currently, Germany operates a system of over 150 secret warehouses where staple foods—wheat, rice, oats, and powdered milk—are stored.
At the same time, the government intends to change its approach to storage: part of the reserves will be stored not only in state warehouses but also with producers and retail chains.
It is expected that partners will maintain a so-called “untouchable reserve,” which, as the expiration date approaches, will be sold and replaced with new products.
According to the minister, the state will monitor reserve levels and prevent abuse, while the new model will avoid additional costs associated with building new warehouses.
Germany is strengthening its cooperation with Ukraine in the defense sector and adopting Ukraine’s experience in developing modern military technologies that are tested directly in combat conditions. This was stated by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius.
Germany recently transferred three cogeneration units to Ukraine for the Chernihiv region, which are intended to ensure a stable supply of heat and electricity. This equipment will be able to meet the needs of tens of thousands of residents and the city’s critical infrastructure.
