Germany has announced a new package of military aid for Ukraine worth $400 million. The funds will be used to strengthen air defense capabilities and to purchase ammunition and missiles for U.S. Patriot systems.

According to Pistorius, $200 million will be used to purchase the necessary ammunition for Ukrainian air defense systems.

“In this way, we are literally saving lives every night and every day. This time, we are allocating $200 million,” emphasized the head of the German Ministry of Defense.

In addition, Germany will join the international PURL program, which involves the purchase of weapons for Ukraine from the United States.

As part of this initiative, Berlin will allocate an additional $200 million for the purchase of PAC-3 guided missiles for the Patriot systems.

“This will enable the procurement of guided missiles for the Patriot systems. We have also agreed to participate by allocating $200 million for the purchase of PAC-3 guided missiles. So, we are moving forward,” Pistorius stated.

The minister also called on other participants in the “Ramstein” format—the Contact Group on Defense Issues in Ukraine—to join in funding the procurement of PAC-3 missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense.

As a reminder, following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s participation in the G7 summit, the leaders of the participating countries agreed on a series of decisions to support Ukraine.

Among the key agreements:

  • increasing the supply of air defense systems;
  • the transfer of additional anti-aircraft systems and interceptor missiles;
  • considering the possibility of granting licenses for the production of foreign weapons at Ukrainian facilities;
  • intensifying economic pressure on Russia.

New funding from Germany will be another step toward strengthening Ukraine’s air defense amid ongoing Russian attacks on civilian and critical infrastructure.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced this ahead of a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels.

Earlier, the Norwegian government announced the allocation of 1.2 billion Norwegian kroner, equivalent to approximately 109 million euros, for the development and procurement of maritime drones for Ukraine.

As reported, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius began a working visit to Canada on Tuesday, the main purpose of which is to convince Ottawa to select the German manufacturer TKMS to supply 12 Type 212CD submarines as part of a 30-billion-euro project.

The Australian government has officially confirmed its intention to allocate 3.9 billion Australian dollars (about 2.76 billion U.S. dollars) toward the construction of a state-of-the-art shipyard for building submarines
