Germany has prevented nearly 30 Islamist terrorist attacks over the past 10 years

Over the past decade, German law enforcement and intelligence agencies have managed to prevent nearly 30 Islamist terrorist attacks. The federal government emphasizes that the fight against Islamism remains one of the key priorities of state security policy.

“Our security agencies have successfully prevented nearly 30 Islamist attacks over the past ten years. This means that the security agencies are certainly taking active measures in this regard,” Singer stated.

According to the Interior Ministry spokesperson, countering Islamic extremism is enshrined as one of the priorities in the federal government’s coalition agreement.

“It clearly states that the fight against Islamism must be a priority. To this end, an advisory council on the prevention and combating of Islamism is in place,” she emphasized.

At the same time, Elena Singer explained that monitoring individuals whom law enforcement considers potentially dangerous falls under the jurisdiction of the federal states, not the central government.

“I must draw your attention to the fact that the supervision of potentially dangerous individuals falls under the jurisdiction of the states,” the Interior Ministry representative stressed, responding to a question about a possible tightening of security measures following the recent terrorist attack in Berlin.

Commenting on the question of whether there are sufficient resources for stricter monitoring of such individuals, she noted that the federal ministry cannot assess the situation, as responsibility for this lies with regional authorities.

Elena Singer, a representative of the German Federal Ministry of the Interior, made this statement during a government press conference in Berlin.

As a reminder, prosecutors in Germany have charged a 15-year-old teenager suspected of planning an attack on a synagogue in Munich. Investigators believe the teenager may have been planning a terrorist attack and had stockpiled a large quantity of pyrotechnic devices for that purpose. He is currently in custody but is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

As a reminder, in Germany, a Deutsche Bahn security officer derailed a train traveling at a speed of about 120 km/h during a confrontation with a passenger.

In Germany, firefighters managed to contain a large-scale forest fire in the Müritz National Park, which broke out on the site of a former military training ground.
