Norlen to hold consultations on Sweden’s new government — The Local Sweden
On September 18, Swedish Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlén will hold meetings with representatives of political parties as part of the procedure for electing a new prime minister. As The Local Sweden reports, the consultations will begin at 10:00 with Social Democratic leader Magdalena Andersson and conclude at 14:00 with a meeting with Simona Mohamsson.

Norlén is also scheduled to meet representatives of the Sweden Democrats, the Left Party, the Centre Party, the Christian Democrats and the Green Party. After the talks, he plans to hold a press conference at approximately 15:30 and present his view of the prospects for forming a new government.
The consultations are taking place after the vote count in the election was completed. According to the publication, the four left-wing parties led by the Social Democrats have 176 seats in the 349-seat parliament, while Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson’s right-wing alliance has 173.

The prime minister’s resignation and Åkesson’s statement
Kristersson resigned after the final results were announced. At the same time, he said that there is currently no politician capable of forming a government and noted that the parties’ election positions could complicate the creation of a coalition.
Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson is set to hold a separate press conference at 9:30. He is expected to comment on the party’s result after it lost three percentage points compared with the 2022 election. TV4, citing anonymous sources within the party, reported that Åkesson may announce a break from leading the party, which he has headed since 2005.
Several trade unions have also announced their intention to join a strike against King, the company known for the game Candy Crush Saga. The strike, previously announced by Engineers of Sweden and Unionen over the absence of a collective agreement, is due to begin on September 25 if the sides fail to reach an agreement.
