A Norwegian princess has put her studies in Australia on hold due to her mother's deteriorating health

Norwegian Princess Ingrid-Alexandra has decided to temporarily suspend her studies at the University of Sydney in Australia and return to Oslo immediately. The reason for this was a serious deterioration in the health of her mother, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, who has been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for a long time.

Her father, Crown Prince Haakon, announced his daughter’s return home during his official visit to Japan, which he also had to cut short by one day due to family circumstances.

Princess Ingrid, who began her higher education abroad in August 2025, wishes to support her mother during this difficult time, but still plans to complete her studies in Australia in the future. Crown Princess Mette-Marit was diagnosed with a chronic lung condition back in 2018, and she is currently on the organ transplant waiting list. According to Crown Prince Haakon, his wife’s health has deteriorated recently, forcing her to rely on an oxygen machine in her daily life. The Crown Princess was last seen in public on May 17 during Norway’s Constitution Day celebrations.

The situation in the royal family has been further complicated by other alarming news. Immediately following the heir to the throne’s statements, the Norwegian Royal House officially announced the emergency hospitalization of 88-year-old Queen Sonja. Her Majesty was taken to the National Hospital due to cardiac issues, specifically atrial fibrillation and heart failure. The Queen will spend the next few days under close medical supervision to undergo a full examination.

This was reported by the Norwegian broadcaster NRK.

Norway’s Crown Prince Haakon stated that the health of his wife, Crown Princess Mette-Marit, has recently deteriorated. She has been battling pulmonary fibrosis for several years and is currently on the waiting list for a transplant.

Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit has publicly commented on her ties to American financier Jeffrey Epstein, acknowledging that she regrets these contacts and considers herself a victim of manipulation.
