New EU sanctions have made international money transfers from Russia more difficult
Following the entry into force of the European Union’s 21st sanctions package, the Russian financial sector began to feel the initial effects. According to media reports, international bank transfers from Russia began experiencing disruptions within the first few hours after the new restrictions were imposed.
According to the publication, transactions between Russia’s “Cifra Bank” and Kazakhstan’s Freedom Bank have been temporarily suspended. Initially, “Tsifra Bank” attributed the disruptions to “preventive maintenance,” but later confirmed that international transfers are currently unavailable.
As the publication notes, the new restrictions have already affected Russians living abroad. One Russian citizen, who moved to Serbia after the start of the full-scale war, said that the sanctions have effectively blocked one of his main ways of receiving funds from Russia, specifically income from real estate rentals.
According to him, alternative options for transferring funds are also limited. In particular, the use of cryptocurrency in Serbia is complicated by local tax regulations, and such transactions can lead to the freezing of a bank account.
In addition, according to “Agency. News,” the new EU sanctions have also affected international sports organizations. The publication claims that former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich has effectively lost his leadership role in the International Chess Federation (FIDE), a development attributed to the restrictions that have been imposed.
