Britain's new prime minister has postponed forming a government to speak with Trump
British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has decided to postpone the announcement of his new cabinet so that he can first hold a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump.
This is set to be Burnham’s first conversation with Trump since taking office as head of the British government.
The Labour Party leader arrived at the Prime Minister’s residence in the afternoon and was expected to begin announcing the composition of his future team. However, Burnham decided to speak with the U.S. president first before announcing his cabinet.
Burnam, who today succeeded Keir Starmer as head of government, promised in his first address to the nation to “make this a turning point for Great Britain.”
Speaking without notes or a podium, the Labour Party leader stated that he would “bring about the biggest changes in the last 40 years” and identified tackling homelessness as his top priority.
Earlier, when asked if he would like to be the first world leader to meet with the new British prime minister, Trump replied, “No, but I think we probably have different views.”
