UAE may join Israel’s “hexagon of alliances” — Dawn

Pakistani publication Dawn published a column whose author suggests that the United Arab Emirates may become one of the participants in Israel’s proposed “hexagon of alliances” in the Middle East. The author links this to reports of a secret visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Abu Dhabi and the development of defense contacts between the UAE and Israel.

According to the columnist’s account, Netanyahu also visited the Emirates in March 2026 to meet with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The author writes that during the same period, the head of Israel’s Mossad intelligence service traveled to the country twice, allegedly to coordinate military operations.

The concept of a new bloc

According to the column, Netanyahu presented the idea of creating a “hexagon of alliances around or within the Middle East” at a government meeting on February 22, 2026, several days before the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He named Israel, India, Greece and Cyprus among the potential participants, without specifying the other Arab, African and Asian countries.

The author believes that the UAE may claim one of the unfilled places due to its diplomatic and defense ties with Israel. The publication also notes that the Emirates, India and Israel, together with the United States, are part of the I2U2 format and are connected to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor project, IMEC.

Assessment of regional risks

The columnist draws attention to reports of military cooperation between the UAE and Israel amid the war with Iran. In particular, he writes about the deployment in the Emirates of the Iron Dome air defense system, which, he claims, is operated by Israeli military personnel. This information is presented in the column as reports and assessments by its author.

In the author’s view, formalizing such an alliance could increase regional tensions. He also links the possible expansion of the Israel-UAE-India partnership to security risks for Pakistan and the intensification of disputes in the Middle East.
