100 finalists announced for Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026
One hundred nature photographs have reached the final of the international Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2026 competition. The winners will be announced on Tuesday, October 13, YLE News reports.
Finalists' images
Among the entries is a photograph of a polar bear peering into a seal's breathing hole in Norway, as well as an image of a chameleon facing a sandstorm in Namibia. The selection also includes a shot from France showing a mosquito feeding on a snake's blood.
Other photographs show a black vulture on a caiman carcass in the Pantanal wetlands of Brazil and a school of blue-striped mackerel fish in the water against the backdrop of dawn and an approaching storm.

Animals through the lens
In one of the images, a frog tries to swallow a butterfly but fails. Another photograph shows a 1.5-centimetre-long insect hiding among vegetation in Ecuador.
The finalists also include images of a rhinoceros beside a bird that is preening itself and rubbing against its skin, a frog in Tokyo after rain, and a swift flying over London Heathrow Airport in the same direction as an airplane. The authors of the polar bear and chameleon photographs are Audun Rikardsen and Dewald Tromp, respectively.
