The UN is preparing a plan to evacuate ships from the Persian Gulf due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz
The UN International Maritime Organization is developing a plan to evacuate hundreds of ships that have been stranded in the Persian Gulf following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz amid the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
This was announced by the organization’s Secretary-General, Arsenio Dominguez, according to Bloomberg.
According to him, the plan can only be implemented once there are clear signs of de-escalation in the region.
Discussions on the details of the operation are currently underway. In particular, the order in which ships will leave the Gulf is being determined—it will depend on the length of time crews have spent in the danger zone and other factors.
It is expected that vessel traffic will follow a traffic separation scheme—an internationally agreed route proposed by Iran and Oman back in 1968 and approved at the international level.
