OPay plans to cover 41 Nigerian higher education institutions with scholarships by the end of 2026

According to a Premium Times Nigeria report published as a press release, OPay has signed a memorandum of understanding with Miva Open University as part of its 10-year ₦1.2 billion scholarship program. Following the agreement, the number of partner higher education institutions in the program stands at 25.

Expansion plans

OPay plans to extend the program to another 16 higher education institutions by the end of 2026. If these plans are implemented, the total number of institutions covered by the program will rise to 41.

As stated in the press release, the initiative provides long-term scholarship support to students pursuing higher education in Nigeria. Initially, the program covered students at 20 higher education institutions.

Miva Open University’s participation

Miva Open University is described in the report as a technology university with a flexible, technology-supported approach to higher education. The press release states that the university’s inclusion is expected to allow more students to benefit from scholarships.

The scholarship program is part of the broader OPayScholars initiative. It also includes the OPay National Innovation Challenge, implemented in partnership with Google and 3MTT, and the OPay Futures program.
