Özgür Özel is forming a new party in Turkey

Özgür Özül, the former leader of Turkey’s largest opposition party, the CHP, announced the launch of a new political initiative. Along with him, 90 other lawmakers left the party to join the new political force. The party’s official name, platform, and leadership have not yet been disclosed.

Özgür Özal, the former leader of Turkey’s Republican People’s Party (CHP), signed the documents to establish a new political party and announced his departure from the party. During a meeting in parliament, Özel stated that the new party is beginning its work alongside the lawmakers elected by the country’s citizens. “We are uniting with our lawmakers. We are forming a new party, taking the first step together with the members of parliament elected by our nation,” said Özal.

According to TRT Haber, after signing the founding documents of the new political party, Ozel officially left the CHP. Along with him, 90 other lawmakers left the party. They have joined the Founding Council of the new political project and will help shape the party’s structure. It is not yet known what the new party will be called, what its political platform will be, or who will lead the party.

The creation of the new party is a significant development in Turkish politics, as the CHP is the country’s largest opposition force and the main rival to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s administration. Now, Özal and his allies must develop their own political platform and define their future strategy ahead of upcoming election campaigns. This was reported by the state-run television channel TRT Haber.
