Trump said that without him, the American media would lose their audience
U.S. President Donald Trump stated that once his political career ends, some American media outlets may lose their audience and even go bankrupt. In his view, the reason is that he himself is currently one of the main topics for the American press. Trump made this statement during a dinner hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association.
Speaking to journalists, the U.S. president said that after he leaves politics, the media will allegedly lose their main source of attention from readers and viewers. “You have no idea how lucky you are. When I’m gone, you’ll all go bankrupt. Your business model will be finished,” Trump said.
According to him, no other American politician generates as much public interest as he does. The president is convinced that it is precisely the constant attention to his activities that helps the media attract an audience. “It’s true. When I’m gone, you’ll all go bankrupt because you won’t have anyone to write about. No one cares about anyone else in U.S. politics,” the White House chief declared.
At the same time, Trump noted that the American media often covers his activities in a negative light. He once again criticized journalists and accused some media outlets of being biased against him and his administration.
Despite Trump’s statements, the U.S. media market faces complex causes of its crisis, including changing news consumption habits, falling advertising revenue, and competition from social media. Many publications in the U.S. have indeed downsized their staff or transitioned to new business models in recent years, but this is not attributed solely to individual politicians.
This is not the first time Trump has claimed that the media pays special attention to him. His relationship with the American press has remained tense since his first presidential campaign, when he regularly criticized journalists for their coverage of his activities. The U.S. leader made these remarks at a dinner hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association.
