Pakistan has deployed 8,000 troops to Saudi Arabia amid escalating tensions with Iran — Reuters
Pakistan has deployed approximately 8,000 troops, combat aircraft, and an air defense system to Saudi Arabia amid the escalating conflict involving Iran.
This was reported by Reuters, citing sources.
According to the agency, Islamabad has transferred about 16 combat aircraft to the kingdom, mainly Chinese-Pakistani-made JF-17 fighters, two squadrons of drones, as well as a Chinese-made HQ-9 air defense system.
Reuters’ sources claim that all these systems are operated by the Pakistani military, while Saudi Arabia provides the funding.
There is currently no official confirmation of this information from Islamabad or Riyadh.
According to sources, the deployed forces are primarily performing training and advisory functions; however, a confidential defense agreement between the countries allegedly allows for the deployment of up to 80,000 Pakistani troops if necessary.
The deployment is taking place against the backdrop of the conflict between Iran, the U.S., and Israel, as well as following attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure.
At the same time, Pakistan continues to position itself as a mediator in contacts between Washington and Tehran.
