UK House of Commons rejects assisted dying bill
The House of Commons of the UK Parliament on September 11 rejected a bill to legalize assisted dying in England and Wales. During its second reading in the House of Commons, 270 lawmakers voted in favor of the document and 286 voted against it. The vote took place on Friday.
Terms of the bill
The document provided that adults with less than six months to live could seek assistance to end their own lives. The bill contained a number of safeguards, although the report does not specify their content. The initiative applied to England and Wales.

According to Anadolu Agency, this was the second attempt by British lawmakers to change legislation on assisted dying.
Previous attempt
Last year, a majority of lawmakers supported an identical bill. However, its consideration stalled, and the House of Lords ran out of time to complete the procedure. During the current vote, supporters of the legislative initiative and its opponents gathered outside Parliament in London.
