Kaczyński's party has expelled more than 40 of its politicians
The Polish Law and Justice Party (PiS) has expelled 38 members of parliament and two senators from its ranks. Among them is former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who has joined the new political alliance “Development Plus.”
The disciplinary court of the Polish Law and Justice (PiS) party has decided to expel 38 members of the Sejm and two senators from the party and its parliamentary faction. Among those who lost their membership is former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The reason for this decision was the politicians’ participation in the new “Development Plus” (Rozwój Plus) coalition, which was created on Morawiecki’s initiative. Based on this coalition, they plan to establish a separate political party this fall.
Why the politicians were expelled
PiS believes that the lawmakers violated the party’s internal bylaws. The disciplinary court concluded that they had effectively left their parliamentary faction and joined another political alliance. This, in the opinion of the party leadership, constitutes a gross violation of internal rules.
The decision is not yet final. The politicians have seven days to file an appeal. If they do not do so, they will officially lose their membership in the “Law and Justice” party once that period expires.
Not all cases have been reviewed yet
At the same time, the disciplinary court has not yet issued a ruling regarding three PiS Members of the European Parliament who are also members of the “Development Plus” association. These are Piotr Müller, Michał Dworczyk, and Waldemar Buda. Their disciplinary cases remain pending.
A New Phase in the Political Standoff
The mass expulsion has become one of the biggest internal conflicts within the ranks of “Law and Justice” in recent years. Mateusz Morawiecki’s launch of a new political project has already led to an open confrontation with the leadership of the party he previously represented. Now, the former prime minister and his allies may permanently lose their membership in “PiS” and focus on creating a new political force, which they plan to officially present this fall. This information was reported by Polsat News.
