The Pentagon Concealed the Extent of U.S. Casualties at the Start of the War with Iran
The American military publication *The War Horse* has released new data from the U.S. Department of Defense on American military casualties during the initial phase of the war with Iran. Documents obtained by the publication through a Freedom of Information Act request show that from February 28 to April 8, more than 400 cases of injuries were recorded, and at least 17 of them were classified as life-threatening.
The U.S. Army suffered the highest number of casualties, with more than 270 wounded. Approximately one-third of them were reservists. Among the casualties were not only privates and sergeants, but also 64 officers, including captains, lieutenant colonels, and colonels.
The Navy reported 64 wounded, the Air Force reported 51, and the Marine Corps reported 19. Head injuries were the most common, with at least 170 U.S. service members sustaining them.
Among the wounded were Brigadier General Clint Barnes and Major General Brad Hinson, who, according to the documents, also suffered head injuries.
The War Horse notes that a number of serious incidents received almost no public coverage. In particular, on March 3, following one of the attacks, 29 casualties were reported, including one seriously wounded soldier. Another 70 cases of injuries were recorded in just a single day—March 18.
One of the most severe incidents was the March 1 strike on a military base in Shuwaikh Port, Kuwait. According to the publication, an Iranian drone crashed into a building on the base, killing six American service members and causing nearly everyone inside to suffer concussions of varying severity.
