Pezeshkian calls memorandum with US the best option to end hostility
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the memorandum of understanding with the United States was the best option for ending hostility between the two countries. According to him, Iran needs to emerge from the current stagnant phase of confrontation in order to attract foreign investment.
Tehran’s position
As Deutsche Welle reports, Pezeshkian described the current state of relations with the United States as a situation that is neither war nor peace. He said that members of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council agreed with this assessment, guided by considerations of dignity, wisdom and national interests.
The president also said that the memorandum contains no provisions that would amount to capitulation. According to him, Iran’s supreme leader determines the political course, and the authorities will act accordingly.
Memorandum and investment
The document, which US President Donald Trump signed in June, provided for a 60-day deadline to end the conflict involving the United States and Israel, as well as for Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions. That deadline expired last week, while there were no signs of a compromise between the sides.

Pezeshkian linked the need for an agreement to the country’s investment attractiveness. He noted that capital is sensitive to risks, so Iran must eliminate them. According to DW, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran closed in response to US and Israeli strikes, also remains unresolved.
Visit by Pakistan’s military chief
Iran’s Foreign Ministry said that Pakistan’s top military leader, Asim Munir, is due to arrive in Tehran on Monday. Tehran described the visit as part of Islamabad’s efforts to strengthen peace and security in the region. According to DW, Pakistan played an important role in the signing of the memorandum between Washington and Tehran.
At the same time, Iran’s new hardline head of the Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, warned neighboring countries against assisting the United States. He said that Iran would attack oil transportation routes from the Persian Gulf that are alternatives to the Strait of Hormuz if its neighbors join what he called the US economic war against Iran.
