Peskov repeated his nuclear threats and made new statements

The Kremlin has once again resorted to nuclear rhetoric. Russian Presidential Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is allegedly prepared to use nuclear weapons only in the event of a threat to the state’s existence, and he also reiterated Moscow’s traditional statements regarding the war against Ukraine and relations with the West.

Peskov made these remarks in an interview with the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche. In addition to the topic of nuclear weapons, he once again reiterated the Kremlin’s position on the causes of the war and called on European countries to resume dialogue with Russia.

During the interview, Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia is allegedly prepared to use nuclear weapons only if a threat to its very existence arises. “We are prepared to use nuclear weapons only if there is a threat to the existence of our state,” said the Kremlin spokesperson. At the same time, he claimed that Russia is allegedly achieving its war objectives without the need to resort to nuclear escalation.

Peskov also stated that Moscow has no interest in starting World War III and called Russia a “responsible state.” He added that, according to him, Russia “always responds to attacks.” In addition, Putin’s spokesperson addressed European countries with a series of statements. He called on Europe not to view Russia as a threat, not to ignore its position, not to disregard Moscow’s interests, and to resume dialogue as soon as possible.

There were also the usual statements regarding the war against Ukraine. Peskov once again reiterated the Kremlin’s official position, according to which the full-scale invasion was allegedly “forced” by the actions of the West. He also stated that Russia justifies the creation of the so-called “buffer zone” near the Ukrainian border by citing alleged threats from Ukraine and Western countries.

In addition, Peskov reiterated the Kremlin’s demands on Ukraine. In particular, he stated that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy must withdraw Ukrainian troops from territories that Russia illegally considers its own, as well as “legally recognize the actual situation on the ground.”

Russian officials make such statements on a regular basis. Ukraine and its international partners have repeatedly emphasized that it was Russia that launched a full-scale invasion in 2022, and that the Kremlin’s demands regarding Ukrainian territories are unacceptable and contrary to international law. This is reported by Die Weltwoche.

Russia has increased its maritime exports of crude oil to the highest level since the start of the full-scale war; however, a significant portion of the shipped volumes has begun to accumulate at sea due to sales issues.
