South Korea and Shin-Line Group sign memorandum on food cluster in Kazakhstan

In Seoul, the Korea Food Industry Cluster Promotion Agency and Kazakhstan’s Shin-Line Group signed a memorandum of understanding to support the development of a food industry cluster in Kazakhstan. The document was signed by agency head Kim Dok Ho and Shin-Line Group chairman Andrey Shin at the Four Seasons hotel during the Korea-Kazakhstan business roundtable, Korea Herald reports.

Consultations and support for companies

The agreement is intended to create a mechanism for cooperation in cluster development, business support and market expansion. The parties plan to jointly provide consulting and advisory services for the proposed Kazakh cluster, develop operational strategies for it and support programs for food companies.

The organizations also intend to promote exchanges between South Korean and Kazakh food producers, help companies enter the markets of both countries, and share information on support programs offered by governments and specialized institutions.

Access to the retail network

The agency describes Shin-Line Group as the largest ice cream producer in Central Asia. The company has production facilities and an established distribution network in Kazakhstan, and also operates around 70 CU chain stores in the country.

During the talks, the parties discussed the possibility of using this retail network to introduce Kazakh consumers to products from companies operating in South Korea’s National Food Cluster. Such an initiative could give these companies access to local retail trade and help expand distribution channels in Central Asia.

The agency manages the National Food Cluster in Iksan, North Jeolla Province. It plans to use its experience in supporting food producers, research activities and product commercialization to advise Shin-Line on establishing and operating a cluster in Kazakhstan.
