South Korea urges citizens to save every drop of fuel amid Iran crisis

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung called on citizens to conserve fuel as the escalating conflict in Iran severely impacts the energy-importing nation, straining households and businesses.

In a parliamentary address, President Lee stressed the urgency of moderating fuel use to curb economic fallout from soaring energy prices and prolonged supply disruptions caused by the Middle East crisis. He encouraged the population to adopt energy-saving habits, such as using public transportation and reducing electricity consumption.

The crisis in the Middle East is destabilising global energy markets, placing South Korea in a difficult position due to its reliance on energy imports. The government is taking steps to mitigate economic losses and ease the burden on both citizens and industries.

Previously, President Lee had advocated for responsible energy use, but the current situation demands stronger action and significant public cooperation. Energy conservation has become both an environmental and socio-economic imperative.

South Korea’s energy stability will depend on the effectiveness of public engagement in saving resources and adapting to fluctuations in the global energy market.

Going forward, state programs promoting energy efficiency and alternative energy sources are expected to play a greater role.
