Poland will install more than a thousand air raid sirens near the Ukrainian border
Poland will significantly increase the number of warning sirens in the Lublin Voivodeship, which borders Ukraine, due to the growing threat from Russia. While there were about 30 remotely activated sirens in the region at the beginning of 2024, there are now nearly 350, and by the end of the year there will be over a thousand. This was announced by the country’s Minister of the Interior, Marcin Kerwinski.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs, the accelerated expansion of the civil defense system is linked to a change in tactics by Russia, which regularly carries out strikes on infrastructure near the border. At the same time, the Polish State Fire Service has begun marking shelters: nearly 3,500 such locations have already been identified in the Lublin Voivodeship, and nationwide, the plan is to mark 85,000 sites by the end of 2026.
In addition, more than 500 fire stations in the Lublin and Podkarpackie provinces will conduct special training exercises on responding to alarms and warning notifications.
