The London Police will expand the use of drones and facial recognition systems

The London Police plan to significantly increase their use of drones and facial recognition technology to combat crime in the city.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley stated that criminals are increasingly using modern digital technologies, so law enforcement must also adapt to these new challenges.

According to him, drones will help track suspects, search for missing persons, gather intelligence, and support police operations. By June 2027, the drone program is set to be expanded to all areas of the British capital.

In addition, the police intend to more actively implement facial recognition systems. According to Rowley, this technology has already helped make more than 2,000 arrests since 2024. New fixed cameras will be installed on city infrastructure and operated remotely.

At the same time, the human rights organization Big Brother Watch has criticized these plans. The group believes that facial recognition technology constitutes an excessive intrusion into citizens’ privacy and could lead to discrimination.
