Nigerian police report arrest of 16 suspects in Delta State

In Delta State in southern Nigeria, police reported the arrest of 16 suspects during separate operations targeting cult groups, suspected illicit drug activity, extortion and car theft. According to Premium Times Nigeria, law enforcement officers reported the seizure of firearms, ammunition, substances believed to be prohibited drugs, and a Toyota Camry that police described as stolen.

The operations, according to state police spokesperson Bright Edafe, took place on September 8 and 9 and were conducted on the basis of intelligence.

Raid near Ozoro

The police anti-cult unit in Ozoro conducted a raid after receiving information about a planned gathering in Aragba-Orogun. Police reported the arrest of eight people.

According to Edafe, law enforcement officers later searched the home of one of the detainees under a warrant. There, police said, they found one pump-action shotgun and one live cartridge.

Operation in Warri

Separately, on September 8, a police surveillance team raided an unfinished building in the King-Zanga area of the Ugbuegwe community in Warri. Law enforcement officers said they had received information about possible illicit drug activity at the address.

Police reported the arrest of five suspects. According to the police, substances identified by law enforcement officers as Indian hemp, codeine, Colorado, Rizla, SK and Canadian Loud were seized at the scene.

Bright Edafe said that the state police would continue measures to prevent crime and counter criminal networks. He also called on residents to provide law enforcement with information that could help prevent and investigate offenses.
