South African police warn of possible serial killer in Kempton Park
South African police have warned women in Kempton Park and nearby areas, including Rhodesfield, to be especially cautious after the bodies of four women were found over approximately two months. Law enforcement officers are investigating whether the killings may be connected, TimesLIVE reports.
Similar circumstances of the deaths
The latest body was found on Saturday evening. South African Police Service spokesperson Brigadier General Athlenda Mathe said there were disturbing similarities in the circumstances of these deaths. According to her, the women's bodies were found partially unclothed and with visible bruising, while the locations where they were discovered were in the same area.
Police have also intensified the search for 38-year-old Kempton Park resident Elizabeth “Tsonzo” Moselakgomo, who went missing on Wednesday after leaving home for an afternoon run. Her family was unable to confirm whether the remains found on Saturday belonged to Moselakgomo because the deceased woman's face was severely injured.

Special investigative team
Acting National Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane instructed the Gauteng provincial police commissioner to establish a special multidisciplinary team. It is to investigate these cases and determine whether there is a link between the killings.
The team will include detectives from specialized units, including the murder and robbery investigation unit and the investigative psychology unit. It will be led by Gauteng deputy police commissioner Major General Mbuso Khumalo. Women were advised not to walk or run alone, especially in remote places, to avoid deserted areas and, where possible, to travel or exercise in groups. Police also urged residents, drivers and security personnel to report suspicious activity in Rhodesfield and surrounding areas.
