In the settlement of Ngukurr in northern Australia, a 14-year-old boy was wounded with a spear in the middle of his back during a series of incidents amid tensions between two family groups. According to Northern Territory Police, the teenager was airlifted for treatment in a stable condition.

Incidents continued from Friday

Police said that on Friday evening they received several reports of a large-scale incident involving members of two family groups in Ngukurr, located about 500 kilometres southeast of Darwin. Some participants were reportedly armed, according to law enforcement, though no injuries were reported at that time.

On Saturday afternoon, tensions escalated, and police received new reports of weapon-related incidents. At about 5:35 p.m., law enforcement were notified that a 14-year-old boy had been wounded in the back with a spear.

Investigation ongoing

Police spoke with the boy and his family at a local medical clinic, after which CareFlight transported him by air for treatment. As ABC News Australia reports, law enforcement continue to establish the circumstances of the incidents and are working with community elders and local leadership groups to reduce tensions and prevent further cases.
