UK High Commissioner calls for investment in Ghana’s creative industry
The United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Sabah Zita Benson, called on the state and private sector to jointly invest in Ghana’s creative industry during a music event in Manchester, United Kingdom. This primarily concerns music, art and tourism.
As MyJoyOnline reports, Benson said that developing the creative sector should not be solely the government’s responsibility. In her view, private investment should complement state support.

The diplomat spoke in an interview with JoyNews on the sidelines of the event in Manchester, where Ghanaian performers Kofi Kinaata, Wendy Shay and Akwaboah performed. She stressed that music tells the story of Ghana’s people and helps represent the country on the international stage.

According to Benson, listeners who learn about performers and their origins may become interested in travelling to Ghana. Therefore, promoting music can also contribute to tourism development and the promotion of the country’s culture, she believes.
Cooperation between the state and business
Benson noted that she had recently heard about funds being allocated for Ghana’s tourism sector, which, in her view, demonstrates the importance of this area to the authorities. At the same time, she believes that supporting tourism, art and the creative sector should be a joint task for the state and business.
As an example of public-private cooperation, she cited the private sector’s creation of a film studio that actors could use. According to her, businesses can contribute to the development of the creative industry, including by investing in infrastructure and other resources.
