Poland scrambled fighter jets in response to a massive Russian attack on Ukraine
On Wednesday night, Poland scrambled its military aircraft in response to a massive Russian missile and drone strike on Ukrainian territory. This was reported by the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces.
The Polish command noted that the decision was made in response to the activity of Russian long-range aircraft carrying out strikes on Ukraine.
“In connection with the activity of the Russian Federation’s long-range aviation, which was carrying out strikes on Ukrainian territory, military aircraft began operations in Polish airspace,” the statement said.
The Polish Armed Forces Operational Command deployed all available forces and assets at its disposal.
In particular, fighter jets were scrambled, ground-based air defense systems were placed on full combat alert, and radar reconnaissance operations were intensified.
The command emphasized that these measures were preventive in nature and aimed at protecting Poland’s airspace, especially in areas bordering Ukraine.
After the Russian attack ended, the Polish military reported that combat aviation operations had ceased.
According to official information, no violations of Polish airspace were recorded.
Warsaw also thanked its NATO allies for their support. In particular, aircraft from the French Air and Space Forces helped ensure the security of Polish airspace, while the Netherlands provided support with air defense systems.
On the night of July 2, Russian occupation forces launched a large-scale combined strike on Ukrainian territory, focusing the main thrust of the attack on Kyiv.
