Poland seeks to station up to 15,000 US troops — Anadolu Agency
Poland is considering the possibility of stationing up to 15,000 US troops as part of plans to establish a permanent US base. Polish Deputy Defense Minister Stanisław Wrzontek told Polish television channel TVP, Anadolu Agency reports.
Permanent and rotational contingent
According to Wrzontek, between 4,000 and 5,000 US troops could be stationed in Poland on a permanent basis. Another 10,000 to 11,000 service members could be present in the country on a rotational basis.
The deputy minister noted that the contingent's size could be increased gradually, and it could potentially reach its full strength by 2039. “Fifteen thousand American soldiers in Poland mean strength, defense capabilities for our country, and allied cooperation,” he said.
Wrzontek also said that he is cautious about disclosing additional details because, according to him, the information is being listened to not only by Poles.

Negotiations with the United States
Last week, US President Donald Trump said there had been “significant progress” in establishing a new US Army base in Poland and called it a possible historic step in bilateral relations. At the same time, he did not specify whether the project envisages the permanent stationing of troops.
Polish Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz is set to hold talks in Washington with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Poland’s security and a permanent US military presence. Earlier, the Polish minister said that a decision on the base was expected in the coming weeks.
A US delegation visited Poland in early September to assess possible locations. Wrzontek suggested that the facility could be located in the west of the country, as such a location would, in his view, make an attack more difficult. The final decision on the location, he said, will be made by the United States.
Poland officially proposed establishing a permanent US base in June. Approximately 10,000 US troops are currently in the country, most of whom serve on a rotational basis.
