British Prime Minister Burnham arrives in New York for UN General Assembly — Politico Europe
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham has arrived in New York, United States, to take part in the UN General Assembly. He will hold meetings with world leaders, including meeting US President Donald Trump in person for the first time. According to Politico Europe, the British prime minister will spend less than 24 hours in New York.
The prime minister's international trips
Burnham has led the British government for around two months. Before that, he positioned himself as a politician focused on domestic issues, including the cost of living and moving centres of state power outside London.
Last month, he visited Ukraine and met with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Burnham has also already spoken with French President Emmanuel Macron and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. In November, he plans to attend the COP31 climate summit in Türkiye.
The prime minister still has to decide whether to attend the Commonwealth heads of government meeting in Antigua and Barbuda and the G20 summit in Miami in December. Next year, the United Kingdom will host G20 leaders in Manchester, where Burnham was mayor for nine years.

Agenda in New York
The office of the British prime minister said that Burnham would promote the United Kingdom's interests in talks with Trump. It also links the government's international activity to the domestic agenda, including reducing the cost of living.
One of the key topics of his visit will be international cooperation on the development of artificial intelligence and managing the risks associated with it. According to government representatives, Burnham will raise this issue in his address to the UN General Assembly and during meetings in New York.
Earlier, Burnham's government, together with France, Canada and other countries, announced sanctions in connection with Israeli settlements in the West Bank. UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband then said that the settlers, whom he called terrorists, were carrying out ethnic cleansing.
