Zelensky meets CIA chief in Ireland — Jerusalem Post

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with CIA Director John Ratcliffe at Shannon Airport in Ireland. The Jerusalem Post reports, citing two sources familiar with the situation.

A conversation during refueling

According to one source, the meeting took place on Monday. Another source said that Zelensky and Ratcliffe spoke informally while their planes were being refueled. Both sources asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter and did not disclose the content of the conversation.

Zelensky was heading to New York for the annual meeting of world leaders at the UN. Ratcliffe, according to one source, was returning after a meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Ratcliffe’s trip to Moscow

The meeting in Ireland, according to the publication, took place less than a month after Ratcliffe’s trip to Moscow, the capital of Russia, an aggressor state. There, the CIA chief met with senior Russian intelligence officials. Neither Ratcliffe nor the CIA publicly said what exactly was discussed in Moscow.

One source who confirmed the meeting with Zelensky to Reuters said that Ratcliffe discussed Ukraine during his visit to Moscow, but provided no details. As The New York Times wrote, the CIA chief shared with the Russian side his assessment of the state of Russia’s war against Ukraine and urged reaching an agreement before Russia’s positions deteriorated.
