Poland has extended the buffer zone along its border with Belarus
Poland has extended the buffer zone on the Polish-Belarusian border for another 90 days—until November 29, 2026.
The decision is justified by the need for enhanced border security and to combat illegal migration. The restrictions cover a 78.29-kilometer stretch in the Podlaskie Voivodeship.
According to Polish authorities, from January 1 to August 2, 2026, border guards recorded 335 attempts to cross the border illegally—more than 98% fewer than during the same period in 2025.
At the same time, officials in Warsaw emphasize that the decrease in the number of attempts does not mean the threat has disappeared, but merely indicates a shift in tactics and the direction of migration pressure.

Traffic jams of cars and buses have formed at the border with Poland.
Poland remains interested in participating in NATO’s nuclear sharing program. At the same time, Warsaw is negotiating its participation in the planning of a European “nuclear umbrella,” as proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron.
