Germany says Russia responsible for drone attack at Leipzig Airport

Germany said that Russia, the aggressor state, was responsible for a drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport in the east of the country on August 4. This was reported by BBC News.

Drone near cargo aircraft

A drone carrying an explosive device was discovered at the airport near Ukrainian cargo aircraft. It did not explode because its detonator was probably faulty.

Investigators also suspect that a second drone may have collided with a cargo aircraft nearby. The report does not specify whether the aircraft was damaged.

Interior minister’s statement

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said that the August 4 attack matched an “established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe.” According to him, Germany assumes that the country could again become a target of such actions.

Security experts had previously suggested Russia’s possible involvement in the incident. Russia had previously denied accusations of its involvement.
