US launches new series of strikes on Iran, Jordan reports missile attack

US forces completed a new series of strikes on several facilities in Iran on Tuesday, September 1. The targets included air defense facilities, communications systems and radar systems, CNBC Top News reports.

Statement by US Central Command

US Central Command said the strikes were a response to Iran's recent attempted attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US service members. This was a new exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran after a nearly month-long pause.

US President Donald Trump described the latest strikes as large-scale and powerful in a Truth Social post. He also threatened further military action if Tehran responds to the attack, which Trump called justified.

Missile attack on Jordan

Following the US strikes, Jordan, a US ally, came under a missile attack, its armed forces said. According to them, the missiles were launched from Iranian territory.

A spokesperson for the Jordanian armed forces said air defense systems intercepted 10 of the 13 missiles. Three others fell in remote areas. No deaths or injuries were reported.

Bahrain's Interior Ministry issued a warning early on September 2 local time about a potential threat and called on citizens to move to the nearest safe place. The ministry did not specify the nature of the threat.

Oil market reaction

Oil prices continued to rise during trading in Asia on Wednesday. On Tuesday, Brent rose by 4.5% to $94.52 per barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures gained about 5% to $90.03 per barrel. WTI reached a level not seen since July 24.

On Monday, Iranian forces struck a US base in Jordan. The day before, the United States attacked missile launchers on Iran's Larak Island, saying they were preparing to launch missiles carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.
