Ueda says Bank of Japan will discuss economic and inflation risks

Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda said that at the central bank’s board meeting this month, he wants to discuss with other board members whether the actual development of the Japanese economy is in line with the regulator’s forecasts.

Issues for the meeting

Ueda also wants to discuss whether risks to inflation are increasing. He named these two topics as the matters to be considered at the Bank of Japan meeting this month.

Statement after the G20 meeting

According to Channel NewsAsia, citing Reuters, Ueda made the statement on September 1 at a press conference in Asheville, North Carolina. Before that, he took part in a meeting of G20 finance leaders.

Ueda also noted that the Bank of Japan has already raised its policy rate five times. According to him, the regulator needs to carefully examine how the cumulative impact of all these decisions may affect the economy, rather than assess individual steps in isolation.
